Position Title: Education Program Lead 

Location: Renton, WA  

 

This is a full-time, salaried position. The Education Program Lead will be responsible for oversight of the SHADOW’s education programs. This includes creating curriculum and leading environmental education programs and coordinating with local teachers and school districts. The ideal candidate is driven, well-organized, self-sufficient, and has a passion for environmental education and conservation.  

 

Primary Roles & Responsibilities:  

Education & Community Engagement (55%)  

Develop, coordinate, and lead all of SHADOW’s educational programming, including field trips, guided nature walks, and community classes. These programs are geared towards students of all ages. 

  • Develop curriculum and lesson plans for all age levels. Maintain and organize materials such that any substitute educator has all required written instructions and needed materials to support successful Field Trips.  

  • Coordinate with schools and community organizations. Organize Field Trips, manage calendars, collect, and enter data related to Field Trips.  

  • Provide training and supervision of AmeriCorps service members with the guidance of the Executive Director.  

Prepare programmatic updates for Education Committee. Attend Education Committee meetings.  

  • Participate in the execution and planning of SHADOW’s major community engagement events.  

  • Work with SHADOW’s Executive Director and Digital Communications Coordinator to promote and market education programs, restoration work parties, and other volunteer opportunities. 

 

Volunteer Management, Data Collection/Entry, & Grants (25%)  

Help recruit, train, and oversee education and restoration volunteers.  

Work with SHADOW’s Executive Director to identify and seek grant funding for educational programs and projects.  

Manage the education program email inbox and respond to inquiries in a timely, professional manner.  

Ensure proper data collection of program participation and volunteer hours.  

  • Track and provide reports for grant activities and deliverables associated with your programs. 

Community Outreach (15%)  

  • Actively search for Community Engagement, Outreach Events, and provide Executive Director with all potential opportunities for review. 

  • Participate in the execution of SHADOW’s community and fundraising events; staff all major events; prepare facility for events at SHADOW.  

Contribute to SHADOW’s monthly newsletter as assigned.  

Provide photos and social media content from restoration and education activities to SHADOW’s Digital Communications Lead as needed. 

 

Restoration, Maintenance & Grounds Management (5%)   

  • Assist with Saturday Work Parties for volunteer groups and volunteers in maintenance, restoration, and land management projects; incorporate stewardship education into volunteer roles and work parties  

Support staff and others in land management and grounds maintenance activities.  

Assist with management of noxious weeds throughout the Nature Preserve grounds as assigned.   

 

Qualifications:  

Must have an associate's degree or two years of college-level coursework in environmental studies/science and one year of classroom and/or outdoor education experience.  

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental studies or other related degree preferred. 

Basic knowledge of Western Washington’s native plants, common noxious weeds, and restoration techniques.  

Strong verbal and written communications skills.

Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and strong time management skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to manage projects and groups.??  

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 

  • Ability to work with additional platforms such as WordPress, Canva, Constant Contact 

 

Salary, Benefits, Schedule:  

Benefits: Full-time employees receive 8 paid holidays, 5 days of sick leave, and 5 days of paid time off per year  

Hourly: 40 hours/week.  

Pay Rate: $47,000 to $54,000/year (depending on experience)  

Schedule: SHADOW's Office is open Tuesday–Saturday. Educational Lead position is required onsite 8:45am-5pm. Occasional WFH time may be approved by ED.  

Occasional additional weekend and evening hours will be required with ample notice.
